Nationals Setup
[Tim] Nice pleasant drive to the drop zone this morning, stopped by Casa Grande and picked up Dad. Lots of new construction going up everywhere around town. Looks like a major migration is coming to Casa Grande, where from, who knows. But there are *lots* of houses going up.

Pull into the DZ, and well look at that! You know that motel that Larry built years ago next to the DZ entrance? It finally opened! Check out the Sky Rider Inn here. There is a company-sized group of military-looking men running down the main drive...looks like a group from Europe...park the van and unload the PC into the Little Red Wagon and head for the DZTV room.

There really is no place like Skydive Arizona, with its array of amenities sprawling across the desert. It's windy and overcast this morning, and there are lots of old people. Hmm...they don't look like wuffos to me, but they are everywhere. Ah, of course, there is the banner: the POPS World Meet has just finished here. Okay then.

Larry says we're setting up the DZ like we did for the 2001 USPA Nationals. Somber days, those were, right after 9/11. Anyway, we're shaping up to having this whole thing ready to go come next Saturday. Got the computer set up and tested the connection to omniskore.com okay, Jan should be happy to hear about that.

My computer. Sigh. I used to build a new PC every year since 1995. That is, until Ryan was born. Now I've had this one since 2002, and this will be its 4th nationals in a row. It is ancient by PC standards, a 1.6 GHz machine with the same Windows XP that came with it. Still runs great. One more nationals, my precious, and you shall be retired. You have served me well.

This will be my 10th year blogging the nationals, and with luck it won't be my last. Started blogging them in 1997 at Perris. I'm glad to be helping Jan and Larry out after Ted decided to devote his spare time to soaring (and let me tell you, he is very, very good at that now).

See you next weekend!
