OmniSkore!HD Licensing and “Home Installation”

Introduction

Team OSHD is pleased to announce the availability of OmniSkore!HD (OSHD) for your personal use or by your national parachuting organization or drop zone.

Please read the System Requirements, Installer Assumptions, Licensing Restrictions, and Basic Setup Guide sections in this document before proceeding.

You can download the installer from this link. If the hyperlink does not work, copy and paste this in your browser’s address bar:

https://omniskore.com/public/oshd/OSHD_v1_3_Install.exe

A YouTube demonstration of the installer is here.

If you have already run the installer and just wish to get the latest refresh of the OSHD software components, use this link to download a zip file, then extract it in your install directory.

Please report problems to the OSHD Team Leader using the contact information at the bottom of this page.

What is Included

Everything!!! You get the complete suite of OSHD software to support a competition of any size. All you need to provide is the laptop computer(s) – anywhere from one to a half dozen depending on the scope of your competition.

Just one caveat: in order to create scores at a sanctioned competition, you must purchase:

·         Matrix Orbital USB consoles (https://www.matrixorbital.com/product_info.php?products_id=1325). You can purchase them from Team OSHD, or directly from the vendor in Canada.

·         An OSHD license. These are priced for one, three, and five judge configurations. (See the “License Types and Costs” section below.)

A sanctioned competition is one that is sanctioned by either the FAI, or a national aero club that is an FAI member.

When you use OSHD without Matrix Orbital USB consoles, you use the laptop “as is” (with one keyboard), or you attach additional USB keyboards to use as “virtual” judging consoles. The scores are accurate for practical purposes, but because the keyboards lack the 4x20 LCD screen of the Matrix Orbital devices, the private judge confirmation process is not possible; instead, all judges will see all results on the judge’s screen during the confirmation process.

System Requirements

The OSHD scoring system software (oshd.exe) is FAI approved on 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 10 computers with an Intel Core i7 processor and at least 4 GB of memory.

Please note that in this context “OSHD” refers to the scoring application itself (oshd.exe). There are a number of other applications included with the install that you can use in a “full Monty” scoring configuration that includes copy stations and JukeBoxes (see Basic Setup Guide).

All applications require a minimum of 4 GB RAM. The minimum processor requirements for all applications are as follows:

·         OSHD (i.e. the core scoring system software): Intel Core i7 or Xeon

o   A Core i5 will work but OSHD is not FAI-approved in this configuration

o   A second monitor to this computer (attached via HDMI cable ) for judge viewing

·         VTADS (Copy Station): Core i3 or better (Core i5 highly recommended)

·         JukeBox: Core i5 or better

Installer Assumptions

In addition to the full suite of OSHD applications, the OSHD installer will also install these open-source / GPL / freeware applications:

·         Bullzip PDF – used by OSHD applications to create PDF documents (primarily score sheets)

·         Screen Recorder Capture – used by JukeBox for streaming video on UDP

·         ffdshow – Open Source video filter

·         ffmpeg – Open Source video editing tool

·         Haali Matroska Splitter – GNU Public License (GPL) video filter

·         VLC – VideoLan’s GPL video player and ActiveX control

If any of these products already exist on your target computer(s), it is recommended that you uninstall them first. The OSHD installer will check for these components to see if they exist and it will skip installation if they do, but you want to make sure you have the latest versions.

Also note that if you uninstall OSHD, these components will not be uninstalled.

If you want to uninstall OSHD after you run the installer, run OSHD_Uninstall.exe in the install folder.

v  Note on PDF files: OSHD uses Bullzip PDF to create PDF files. Bullzip PDF is not a PDF reader. If your computer does not have a PDF reader, you will need to install your own. Foxit Reader and Adobe Reader are good choices.

Licensing Restrictions

As noted above, the scoring software (OSHD.exe) can operate with or without the Matrix Orbital brand USB judging consoles:

·         When operated without the USB consoles:

o   You are free to use the suite of OSHD software for whatever you choose, so long as it is not used at any competition that is sanctioned by the FAI, or sanctioned by a national aero club that is an FAI member.

o   When you start the OSHD scoring application without judging consoles, you will be given an error message (“No judging consoles found!”) with an opportunity to restart the application in “keyboard” mode by clicking “Yes”. You will be able to create scores and do everything you would do with the judging consoles, except you will be using the numeric keypad on your keyboard instead of real judging consoles.

o   You can attach multiple USB keyboards and assign each one to an individual judge. With the exception of the confirmation process, the operation of the scoring system is identical.

o   Remember, OSHD is only FAI approved when the USB judging consoles are used. This has to do with the timing accuracy that is provided by the consoles, but not by keyboards. You cannot use OSHD in “keyboard mode” for a sanctioned competition.

·         When operated with the judging consoles, a software license is required. See “License Types and Costs” below for more information.

Basic Setup Guide

The first thing to understand about OmniSkore!HD – besides the fact that it’s the best skydiving scoring system on the planet, of course – is that it is scalable:

·         You can judge a competition with just a single laptop and keyboard(s)!

o   Your keyboard acts as a virtual judging console!

o   If you are just a team in training and want to use a real scoring system, or a new judge wanting to get more experience, or an experienced judge supporting a weekend competition, this is the configuration for you!

o   Of course, for a sanctioned competition, you will need to purchase a license and use the Matrix Orbital USB judging consoles instead.

·         If you’re supporting a competition with more than about six teams, you can add additional laptop(s) to your network to act as copy stations:

o   Run the OSHD installer on each

o   In the OmniPrep tool, under SystemSettings, set the “Role” of the new laptops to “VTADS”

o   Run the “VTADS” software on the laptops, and you’re in business!

·         If you want to make a real show of your competition, add more laptop(s) running JukeBox, OSHD’s one-of-a-kind on-demand replay tool!

·         You can add additional laptops to your network to support the scope of your competition:

o   As many VTADS copy stations as you need (normally one per dozen teams)

o   As many JukeBox stations as you want

o   As many OSHD scoring laptops as you need

o   Dedicated laptop(s) for transcoding (set Role=”Server” and run TranscodeManager)

·         See this YouTube video for a demonstration of creating score(s) after an initial installation on just your laptop.

For Additional Help …

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a moving picture is worth ten thousand.” – some smart guy

If you’re like me, reading “how to” documents like this can be a little tedious. So to make the learning process as painless as possible, Team OSHD has created a series of informational and “how to …” videos on the OmniSkore !HD YouTube channel. Videos will be added regularly through January 2017, so check back regularly if you’re reading this before then.
