America's Cup of Formation Skydiving
June 10 - 11, Skydive Houston

Note from the webmaster - sorry if this page is a little sloppy, Ted is doing this meet in Texas while I'm in MA covering the S&A nationals, so I'm copying his e-mail into this page. Hope you can make sense of it, it looks pretty bad on this little laptop!

The weather in Waller is wallowing; lots of rain overnight and overcast skies this morning.  Fortunately the ceiling is just high enough to permit normal working time in 4-way.

We had an interesting event occur Friday night during the draw.  Round six came out as 23 O 1 (Snowflake - Offset, Satellite, Snowflake - Snowflake). This resulted in a skydive with a condensed block (Snowflake - Snowflake - Offset), but only after the first time through the page, resulting in a rules conundrum.  I had never seen this situation before.  It was impossible to tack another block or random onto the sequence, because it would go into the middle of the condensed block, eliminating the condensation and resulting in a (illegal) 6 or 7 point skydive.  So the chief judge, in a brilliant move to avoid controversy, substituted round 7 for round 6.  This one will go to the IPC FS subcommittee.

Cheeseburger time ...

The two fastest teams, Airspeed Vertical and Deland PD Blue, both had separation problems going from the Bundy to the Canadian Tee in round 2.  The number 3 person in that Bundy always wanted to pick up that leg grip too soon.  Drove me nuts!  Airspeed Zulu escaped busting that transition but they did have an illegal fanny grip building their third Stardian.  BUTTSTED.
The weather has been improving, though getting breezy.  (Obviously the high winds are blowing the clouds away.)

If you are an FS comp fan ... you should be here.  Airspeed Vertical is six points ahead of Deland PD Blue in raw score, but Blue, despite a pair of busts, is showing everyone their improvement, poise and above all desire.  Look for this team to be wearing a medal at the Nationals and possibly the World Cup -- which color appears to be up to them.
With the handicap, the two fastest teams became the two leading teams after Round 5.  Another beautiful jump by Airspeed Vertical (Craig, Mark, Johnny and Neal).

Round 6 is going up; if the winds don't get too high we will have defied the weather.

Bits:

The day started with nice, partly cloudy skies, but the first round was delayed slightly as clouds moved in.  (I still haven't learned why we can only start at 9am!  What are we going to do, wake the cows up?)

Deguello skydived neat and clean.  Alan Metni remarked after seeing the Round 1 results: "Deguello's gonna kick our ass."  Stay tuned and find out!

Two busts for Airspeed in round 2.

We've had some serious gully-washers here.  I saw a couple of guys wearing life jackets outside.  Don't know if we'll get any more in ... no word yet ...
